Nursing - Practical Nurse (LPN) - CERT

This program prepares students for entry-level positions as practical nurses. The program combines theory and practice emphasizing the roles of a practical nurse as a provider of care, manager of care, and member of the discipline of nursing. Graduates of the program are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN).

Careers

Licensed practical nurses (LPNs) provide basic nursing care under the direct supervision of registered nurses and doctors. LPNs are in demand in several industries throughout the global workforce. Most LPNs work in healthcare facilities, including hospitals, doctors' offices, and long-term care facilities. Duties usually include providing routine care, observing patient's health, assisting doctors and registered nurses, and communicating with patients and their families.

  • Admission Information

    Application Deadlines

    Full-time Program: October 1st to March 15th -- 10-month program, starts in August.
    Part-time Program: April 1st to September 15th -- 18-month program, starts in January.

    Technical Standards for Nursing Program

    Students in the Allied Health Department must have the following minimum abilities:

    COGNITIVE

    Observation - Students must

    • Be able to observe lectures and demonstrations.

    Communication - Student must

    • Be able to use multiple communication techniques including verbal, nonverbal, written, group processes and information technology in order to communicate with instructors, peers, health professionals, patients and others.
    • Be able to speak, read and write in English.

    Intellectual/Conceptual/Integrative/Quantitative - Students must

    • Read, understand and be able to discuss information from reading.
    • Acquire and apply information from classroom instruction, lectures, laboratory experience, independent learning and team projects.
    • Measure, calculate reason, analyze, evaluate, and process information

    EMOTIONAL

    Behavioral, Emotional and Social - Students must

    • Possess the emotional health required for full use of his other intellectual abilities.
    • Be able to function under stress.
    • Develop mature, sensitive and effective relationships with others.
    • Adapt to changing environments.
    • Work Cooperatively with instructors, peers, health professionals, patients and others.

    PHYSICAL

    Motor Function - Student must

    • Possess the skills necessary to carry out the procedures in their discipline.

    Physical Endurance - Students must possess

    • Physical stamina sufficient to complete assigned periods of clinical practice within allotted time frames specific to their discipline.
